Fernmac is the exclusive distributor for patented infrared patching equipment developed and manufactured in the USA by Keizer-Morris. In addition to selling and maintaining the equipment, we operate it as contractors to several Local Authorities and County Councils and as subcontractors to companies which maintain areas of the highways network. We also carry out asphalt repairs for large companies with substantial asphalt areas such as supermarkets, DIY stores, public utilities and manufacturers.

Each set of equipment comprises an infrared patching machine, a hot-box containing asphalt and a roller, all loaded onto a purpose-made lorry. The patching machine uses propane to heat a ceramic blanket which in turn transmits infrared heat into the asphalt surface. When the surface reaches around 150 degrees centigrade, the asphalt becomes soft and workable. Some liquid binder and, where necessary, extra asphalt from the hot-box is added, the surface raked level, then compacted using the roller to produce a homogeneous patch in the asphalt surface.

The process is 100% environmentally friendly and much more efficient and cost effective than traditional methods. Potholes are repaired in minutes, with no noise of jack hammers and no need to dig out and take to tip any unwanted material. The patch is produced with no cut edges for water to seep into and erode, so the lifetime of the repair is considerably greater.

This patching system is particularly innovative and effective and it is important to contact us for a full explanation and demonstration as appropriate.
